Fight against Ebola to Kindia: the NGO-ECOGUINEA AGET Offers Kits to Four Localities
Today in Guinea
December 6, 2014

(English Translation)
The NGO ECOGUINEA-AGET has donated kits made up of 24 cartons of soap, 30 cartons of chlorine and 24 buckets (40 liters each) to four localities of the prefecture of Kindia. From Sabouya mosque to Moriady Foula and Sossé, going by Dantoumanya, this tour began after a training session in conjunction with the Red Cross of Matoto. It was financed by ECO GUINEA-AGET.  The Project Manager, Mr Cellou Diallo, who is responsible for external relations outside of the NGO, accompanied Mr Condé and Mr Touré, both members of the NGO. The goal is to educate the populations of these areas about the precautionary measures to be taken to avoid the Ebola virus.

For Mr Diallo, the Project Manager, Ebola is everybody’s business and that is why each person must play a part in the solution: "I am convinced that if each person does a little bit, then we will overcome this epidemic. This is why I ask the populace to take this business of Ebola very seriously. If everybody could have the same education as [the region of] Télémélé, Ebola would be eradicated in Guinea. People must be educated to know that the disease exists here and for the push to end Ebola both in and outside of the country, we must all work together in an open and focused way (in a “sacred partnership”). Our NGO’s goal is to support families and communities to empower their lives through eco-solutions, but looking at the sanitary conditions of this country, the members of the EcoGuinea-AGET living in Guinea and abroad considered it a priority to contribute to this fight that concerns us all".

Speaking about the choice of localities that the team has visited that surround the city of Kindia, the project manager asserts: " Ebola has been in the Kindia region but is new to these areas, so we have visited around the countryside before coming to distribute our kits today. As you have seen, everywhere we’ve gone the people have been satisfied by what we have done and by our gifts/donations”.

“In the mosque where we prayed you have seen the need that is there. At the village of Friguiaghé it is the Youth Club that served as our meeting place and at the prefect of Kindia, we have had to admonish the behavior of certain presidents of districts of the locality of Guriakhory and Koliagbé or the resistance [to the belief that Ebola doesn’t exist] would still persist”. As for the sub-prefect, Yvonne Condé, she was delighted by the quality of the donations: " I am very comforted by the quality of the gifts/donations”.

This work of raising awareness is a good option to choose in the fight against the epidemic. Hats off to ECOGUINEA-AGET not only for raising awareness but also for the distribution of the Ebola kit donations. I invite other NGOs to follow in the steps of ECOGUINEA-AGET.

To end, Cellou Diallo, in the name of the president of the NGO Mohamed Lamine Touré (Lamzo) thanks the EcoGuinea team in Australia and the USA, the founder, Mrs Mardi Kendall and Mrs Lee McKerracher and Mrs Jocelyn Stoller and all the friends of the ECOGUINEA in Guinea and throughout the world. The last statistics published by the WHO states that there have been 7000 Ebola deaths in West Africa.
